WATERVILLE, Maine – After helping Castleton University move to the top of the conference standings with three victories over the past week, freshman Brooke Raiche has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
She led the Spartans with a season-high 15 points last Tuesday at Colby-Sawyer, hitting 6-of-12 shots from the field, including three three-pointers, plus she also posted season high totals of five rebounds and four assists. Two of those three-pointers came during Castleton's 14-0 run in the second quarter that helped the Spartans start to pull away from the Chargers.
Over the weekend, Raiche first scored eight points in Castleton's victory over Maine Maritime Friday. She then established a new season high with five assists to help the Spartans defeat Husson Saturday.
Raiche is currently averaging 6.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game as she is one of the first players off the bench for the Spartans. She has now scored in double figures three times this season.
Raiche becomes the first Castleton women's basketball player to receive a league weekly award since Alexis Quenneville was named NAC Rookie of the Week on Feb. 20, 2017. She also becomes the second member of her family to earn weekly honors from the NAC, as Taylor Raiche was named NAC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 1, 2014.
Castleton (9-0, 5-0 NAC) is scheduled to host Norwich University Tuesday, Dec. 12, starting at 7 p.m. at Glenbrook Gym.
