CASTLETON, Vt. – Coming off her best two games of the season in a pivotal weekend for the Castleton University women's hockey team, Hannah Rose has garnered New England Hockey Conference Player of the Week honors.
Rose amassed six points on five goals and one assist to lead the Spartans to a 2-0-0 weekend.
Last Friday against Southern Maine, Rose notched two goals to help lead the Spartans to a 4-0 win over the Huskies in the annual Pink the Rink at Spartan Arena. On her first goal, Rose forced a turnover near center ice and took control by herself, roofing a wrist shot just under the cross bar to put the Spartans up 2-0. She later delivered the final blow of the night after tipping in a sharp pass from Aimee Briand at the near post.
The junior followed Friday's two-goal performance with a career game on Saturday, scoring three goals, including the game-winner, and adding one assist to help lift the Spartans past the University of New England, 6-4.
In a back-and-forth affair that featured three separate ties and four lead changes, Rose gave the Spartans their first lead of the night early in the second period, again punching in a pass from Briand at the door step. After re-directing Hannah Wright's shot from the point for her second goal early in the third, Rose again issued the final blow to cap off her first career hat trick with an empty-net goal in the final seconds.
The line of Rose, Briand, and Ashley Pelkey accounted for 12 points over the weekend. The Spartans entered the weekend one point behind UNE in eighth place in the NEHC standings, and they came out three points ahead of their counterparts in seventh with just two regular-season contests left.
Rose becomes the first Spartan to earn NEHC Player of the Week accolades this season, with teammates Nicolle Trivino and Alexis Kalm both earning Rookie of the Week honors earlier in the year.
