Women's Hockey to Host UNE In NEHC Quaterfinals
CASTLETON, Vt. – Backed by four wins in its last five games of the regular season, the Castleton women's hockey team captured the No. 4 seed for the upcoming New England Hockey Conference tournament and will host the fifth-seeded University of New England in the quarterfinal round Saturday, Feb. 25 at Spartan Arena beginning at 7 p.m.

Castleton catapulted into the fourth seed with a three-game winning streak down the stretch, including a pivotal 6-4 win over UNE on Feb. 11. The Spartans emerged one point ahead of the Nor'easters with the win, and they secured the home playoff game with a 4-0 win at Nichols in the regular season finale.

Castleton and UNE squared off twice in the regular season, with each side winning on their home ice. The Nor'easters defeated Castleton, 3-2, at Harold Alfond Forum Ice Arena on Jan. 27.

The Spartans finished the regular season 8-13-4 and posted a 7-8-2 mark in NEHC play. Four of those conference wins came in the month of February, and the Spartans have tallied at least three goals in each of the past five games. This will be the fifth consecutive year the Spartans have stayed at home for a quarterfinal matchup, and it will be the first under head coach DJ Fimiani.

Norwich claims the top seed in the NEHC tournament and will host Plymouth State in the quarterfinals. Second seed Manhattanville welcomes seventh seed Southern Maine, and third seed UMass Boston will host sixth seed Salve Regina. All quarterfinals will be played Saturday, Feb. 25.
