CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's ice hockey team has released its 2017 slate, which includes 13 contests on the home ice of Spartan Arena – for ticket information, please see below – and a season-opening exhibition against four-time defending champion Plattsburgh.
Following the Oct. 21 exhibition, Castleton opens the regular season at 4 p.m. on Oct. 27 with a home nonconference game versus Becker College. The very next day, the Spartans head out on the road to face Oswego State.
Castleton then competes in seven straight New England Hockey Conference games, starting with a weekend doubleheader at Salve Regina University and the University of Massachusetts-Boston on Nov 3-4.
Returning to Rutland, Vt. the Spartans host New England College on Nov. 10 prior to welcoming Plymouth State for a Saturday matinee on Veterans Day.
A midweek road game at 2016-17 NCAA National Championship semifinalist Norwich on Nov. 14 breaks up a potential six-game homestand. Back on home ice, Castleton welcomes the University of New England, Southern Maine University and Franklin Pierce in consecutive contests beginning on Nov. 17.
After a brief hiatus during Thanksgiving, women's ice hockey hosts Williams College on Dec. 6, prior to traveling to 2017 NCAA Tournament quarterfinalist Middlebury on Dec. 9.
Coming out of the winter holiday break, the Spartans host the WSYB/Catamount Radio Invitational on Jan. 6-7. The home team will face Salem St. at 1 p.m. on the first day of action, while Manhattanville College and SUNY Canton face off at 4 p.m. On Sunday, consolation play precedes the championship at the same time.
Over a 10-day stretch beginning on Jan. 10, Castleton plays four nonconference games against Morrisville State, Connecticut College, Trinity and Johnson & Wales.
Salve Regina and the University of Massachusetts-Boston come to town on the weekend of Jan. 26-27. Then Norwich makes the trip from Northfield, Vt. to Rutland, Vt. for a Jan. 30 NEHC game.
Wrapping up the regular season, the Spartans travel for their final four conference games. During the weekends of Feb. 2-3 and Feb. 9-10, women's ice hockey makes the New Hampshire and Maine doubles at New England College and Plymouth State as well as the University of New England and Southern Maine.
