MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Aimee Briand of the Castleton University women's ice hockey team has been named New England Hockey Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 5.
During the team's 1-1 weekend against Salve Regina University and the University of Massachusetts Boston, Briand scored three goals and tallied an assist. She now leads the team in goals and is tied for the conference lead.
On Friday, the junior forward notched two goals, which included the game-winner with less than five minutes remaining in the final period of regulation. Then with 43 seconds left on the game clock and the Seahawks sending out an extra attacker, Briand corralled the puck and sent it more than three-quarters down the ice into the empty net.
Against UMass Boston on Saturday, the Barrington, N.H. native continued to impress. Less than 17 seconds in, she dealt the puck to Casey Traill who fired a one-timer that clipped the Beacon goalie's glove before finding the back of the goal.
Extending the lead to 2-0, Briand received the puck from Chanel Tvergyak at mid-ice, took it across the blue line and fired past the goalie's right side.
Castleton returns to action at 7 p.m. on Friday on home ice as it hosts New England College in NEHC action.
