Spartan Women’s Lacrosse Headed to Middlebury for NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Castleton University women's lacrosse team will face Babson College in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament next weekend in a contest to be hosted by Middlebury College, as the entire championship bracket was announced by the NCAA Sunday night.

Castleton won its seventh consecutive North Atlantic Conference Tournament title and the accompanying automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with a 12-10 victory over Colby-Sawyer College Saturday night at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans will bring an 11-6 overall record into the national tournament, including a seven-game winning streak.

Babson won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament final with a 15-13 victory over Springfield College on its home field earlier Sunday. The Beavers bring a 12-7 overall record into next weekend's contest, including victories in six of their last seven games.

The winner of the Castleton-Babson game will face Middlebury in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers, ranked sixth in last week's IWLCA Division III national poll, improved to 16-2 overall with a 13-10 victory over Bowdoin in the New England Small Conference Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament title match held Sunday.

According to Middlebury's athletics website, the Castleton-Babson match will take place Saturday, May 12, at 1 p.m., with the Panthers facing the winner Sunday, May 13, also at 1 p.m. Middlebury will host both games on campus at Kohn Field.
