CHITTENDEN, Vt. – Thanks to two top-10 finishes Saturday, the Castleton University women's Nordic ski team currently finds itself in third place after the first day of the Castleton Invitational, held at the Mountain Top Nordic Ski Center.
In the nine-kilometer freestyle event, freshman Megan Greene posted the third-fastest time of the day at 27:32, just over a minute behind event winner Sarah Duclos of Clarkson and just 42 seconds slower than Ana Witkowski of Clarkson. Emily Cromie finished in ninth place with a mark of 31:05.
Adrienne Toof finished in 17th place with a time of 33:02, just ahead of teammate Carley Patch, who ended up in 20th place after posting a time of 33:45. Hahnah Saroff also accumulated a solid time for the Spartans, finishing in 23rd place with a mark of 34:11.
As a team, Castleton finished the first day with 28 points, behind current leader Clarkson at 11 points and Vermont with 18 points. Cornell is in fourth place with 33 points, followed by Hamilton in fifth place with 75 points and Army West Point in sixth place with 82 points.
The second and final day of the Castleton Invitational will take place Sunday, Jan. 22, at 9:30 a.m. and will feature the seven-kilometer classical event.
