CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's rugby team will conclude this weekend's Homecoming festivities with a home match against Molloy College Sunday, Sept. 18, starting at 12 noon at Alumni Field.
The Spartans will look to earn the program's first-ever victory after losing at Norwich on Sept. 3 and against Sacred Heart last Saturday. Castleton did make history versus the Pioneers, hosting its first contest as an NCAA varsity program, as well as scoring the first points in program history thanks to tries by Casey Comeau and Kayleigh Daniels.
Like Castleton, Molloy is in its first season as a NCAA varsity team, picking up a 45-22 victory at Sacred Heart Sept. 3 before losing last Saturday to the University of New England, 68-10. Jericka Ruiz and Sam Guido have scored tries in both matches this season for the Lions.
After Sunday's match, the Spartans will play four consecutive road contests before finishing the inaugural season with home games against Quinnipiac and UNE. Castleton and Molloy will face each other again at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford, N.Y., Saturday, Oct. 8.
