Castleton Rugby Continues Road Swing at Molloy Saturday

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's rugby team continues its four-match road swing Saturday, Oct. 8, traveling to Cedar Creek Park in Seaford, N.Y., for a rematch with the Molloy College Lions starting at 1 p.m.

On Sept. 18 at Alumni Field, Castleton took the early lead, but Molloy scored 24 unanswered points in the first half on its way to a 45-10 victory. Savanah Graves picked up the only try of the match for the Spartans, while Katie Campbell contributed a conversion and a penalty kick.

Molloy enters the match with a 2-3 overall record after losing to West Chester University last Saturday, 92-19. Jackie Maida, Caroline Nickels, and Jericka Ruiz all scored tries for the Lions, and Elizabeth Kaminski went 2-for-3 on conversion kicks. In Molloy's victory over Castleton last month, Maida led the Lions with three tries, Ruiz added two tries, and Kaminski was successful on five conversions.

Castleton is looking for its first score in a road contest after losing at the University of New England last Friday, 91-0. After Saturday's match, the Spartans will face Bowdoin on the road Oct. 15 before completing their inaugural NCAA varsity season with home contests against Quinnipiac Oct. 23 and UNE Oct. 29.
