CASTLETON, Vt. – After four consecutive road matches, the Castleton University women's rugby team plays its first home contest since Sept. 18, welcoming Quinnipiac University to Alumni Field Sunday, Oct. 23, starting at 2 p.m.
The Spartans are coming off a loss to Bowdoin last Saturday. Castleton has performed better at home so far this season, scoring 10 points in each of its two previous home contests.
Quinnipiac brings a 5-1 overall record into Sunday's match after traveling across the country to Ellensburg, Wash., and losing to Central Washington last Saturday, 19-12. This will be the seventh consecutive road match for the Bobcats, who are averaging over 43 points per game while allowing just 8.8 points per contest.
The Bobcats won the NCVWRA national championship last season and are expected to contend for the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) title, starting with the quarterfinals on Nov. 12 on campus sites before moving to Army-West Point for the semifinals Nov. 18 and the finals Nov. 20.
After Sunday's match, Castleton will close out its inaugural season with a home match against the University of New England Saturday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m.
