Women's Rugby Falls In Home Opener Against Molloy

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's rugby team dropped its first home match of the year, 58-19, to the Molloy College Lions on Sunday afternoon. Castleton continues to search for its first win in program history (0-3), while the Lions improve to 2-1.

Sierra Ostrow-Remy got the Spartans out of the gates quickly, scoring two tries in the first nine minutes of the contest. For the second score, Remy put together a 50-yard breakaway with help from Savanah Graves.

Following a successful Molloy try, Castleton extended its lead to 19-5 with a Veronica Arnone score and an Ostrow-Remy conversion.

Molloy showed its endurance as it quickly rebounded, scoring a try and a conversion, which brought the score to 19-12 at the half.

In the third and fourth quarters, it was completely dominated by the Lions. Castleton battled valiantly but was unable to stay with the Division II College. Molloy scored seven tries and added three conversions in the half.

Women's rugby returns to play against Mt. St. Mary's at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Castleton will travel to Sacred Heart University to play the Mountaineers.
