Rugby Falls To Colby-Sawyer On The Road

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Despite outscoring the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers 22-7 to close the game, the Castleton University rugby team fell on the road – 78-22 – at Mercer Field on Friday afternoon.

Castleton falls to 0-5 during 2018, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-2.

Leading Castleton in the scoring, Julia May notched two tries. The sophomore flanker scored the first try late in the third period to get Spartans on the board before following up with her second to begin the scoring in the fourth.

Mikaela Phillips, Savannah Graves and Kailyn Duff each also had one try in the final quarter. Duff was also 2-for-4 on conversions during the afternoon.

The Chargers raced to a 35-0 lead through the first quarter with the help of tries from four different players. Remaining hot through the second and third periods, the Chargers scored the first 71 points before May got Castleton on the board.

Rugby returns to action at 12 p.m. on Sunday, October 21 as it hosts Sacred Heart. Earlier in the season, Sacred Heart defeated Castleton in Fairfield.
