Women's Alpine Skiing Set for Two-Day Event at Crotched Mountain

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's alpine skiing team is back in action on Saturday and Sunday, competing in the slalom and giant slalom at Crotched Mountain.

The Spartans have finished first and fourth in the slalom this season, while finishing first, third and fourth in the giant slalom as well. The Spartans' giant slalom win was the first race of the season at Okemo, while the slalom victory came in week two at West Mountain.

Kirsten Kruk has been a force to be reckoned with in the slalom, winning both of the SL races the team has competed in this season. The sophomore has also finished inside the top 10 in two of the four GS races she has participated in this season. Linn Ljungemo has five top-10 finishes on her record this season, including a GS victory at Okemo to help the Spartans to the top spot. Three of Ljungemo's top-10 finishes were also top-five finishes, with a third-place spot in the slalom at West Mountain.

Kylie Mackie has been another top skier for the Spartans, registering three top-10 finishes in six races, including a fifth-place finish in the GS at Okemo. The rookie has placed inside the top 15 in four races this season, but has failed to finish the course on two occasions. Megan O'Shea has also stepped up for Castleton, placing in the top-25 in five of her six races this season with a top finish of 12th in the slalom at Okemo. In both SL events this season, O'Shea has recorded a top-20 finish.

Other racers of note for Castleton include Emily Burke, Nadine Downing, Madeline Haggerty and Caitlin Houston, all of whom have a top-25 finish to their name this season. Houston has placed inside the top 20 three times, with a season-best result of 15th in the slalom at West Mountain.
