Women's Alpine Places Second at Crotched Mountain

BENNINGTON, N.H. – The Castleton women's alpine skiing team came up just short of the top spot on Saturday, finishing just 1.56 seconds off of first place in the slalom at Crotched Mountain.

The Spartans posted a team time of 5:28.78, narrowly missing out on first place behind Brown. Brown finished with a team time of 5:27.22. Babson rounded out the top three with a total time of 5:32.91.

Linn Ljungemo was the top finisher for Castleton, placing second overall in a field of 71 racers at 1:48.28. The sophomore was in fourth place after her initial run, but jumped up to second place after laying down the fastest second run of the afternoon. Kylie Mackie finished sixth overall and second on the team at 1:49.89, while Kirsten Kruk tallied a top-10 finish of her own, placing ninth with a time of 1:50.61.

Other notables for Castleton included Megan O'Shea and Caitlin Houston, who finished back-to-back in 25th and 26th place with times of 1:57.15 and 1:57.56, respectively.

Brown's Ali Gunesch was the top finisher on the day, posting a time of 1:47.33. Alexandra Skovran of the University of Connecticut rounded out the top three behind Ljungemo with a time of 1:48.70.

Castleton will compete in the giant slalom at Crotched Mountain on Sunday.
