ANDOVER, N.H. – The Castleton women's alpine skiing team picked up a third-place finish on Sunday in the slalom at Blackwater Ski Area, finishing less than one half of a second from the No. 2 spot on the day.
The Spartans registered a team time of 5:08.29, narrowly missing out on the second place spot that went to Babson at 5:07.82. Brown was the top team on the day, finishing more than five seconds ahead of the field at 5:02.52.
Linn Ljungemo paced the Spartans for the second day in a row in the SL, finishing second overall with a time of 1:40.15. It is her fourth podium placement of the season.
Kylie Mackie posted the best finish of her young career, placing fourth overall at 1:40.86. She was in fifth place after the day's initial runs, but she registered the third-fastest second run to move up one spot in the standings. Madeline Haggerty placed third on the team and 23rd overall on the day, clocking in at 1:47.28. Caitlin Houston and Megan O'Shea were close behind, finishing 25th and 26th at 1:48.37 and 1:48.45, respectively.
Brown's Natalie Pearl claimed the top spot on the podium, finishing at 1:39.53. Alexandra Skovran from the University of Connecticut was close behind Ljungemo in third place, clocking in at 1:40.63.
The Spartans return to the slopes for the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships this coming weekend at West Mountain in Queensbury, N.Y.
