Women's Alpine Dominates GS at West Mountain

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Castleton University women's alpine ski team remained unbeaten on the season on Saturday afternoon, taking first place after claiming each of the top-four spots on the leaderboard individually in the giant slalom at West Mountain.

The Spartans posted a team time of 6:26.99 to lead the field of nine teams. Brown University finished second at 6:35.32 and Babson placed third with a team total of 6:41.60.

Karoline Rettenbacher earned the top spot on the podium—the first giant slalom victory of her career—with a time of 2:07.67. She had the fastest result in each of the two runs on her way to besting the field by nearly two full seconds. Linn Ljungemo placed second overall with a time of 2:09.29, while Kylie Mackie came in third at 2:10.03.

Lena Soehnle was fourth overall with a time of 2:10.62, while Kirsten Kruk grabbed an eighth-place finish at 2:12.70. Li Aunes rounded out the Spartans' notables with an 11th-place time of 2:14.17.

Castleton competes in the GS once more on Sunday at West Mountain. The opening runs begin at 9:30 a.m.
