Spartan Offense Shines in 9-0 Win at Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Eight different Spartans found the back of the net as the Castleton women's soccer team continued its offensive onslaught with a 9-0 victory over Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

Castleton has now won four out of its last five and improved to 4-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference with the win. Lyndon, meanwhile, fell to 0-6, 0-2 after the loss.

Four different goal scorers scored in the first half as Castleton jumped out to a comfortable lead after 45 minutes of play. Bronwen Hopwood finished a cross from Makenzi Bellando just 4:34 into the contest before Kate Steller doubled the Spartan's lead in the 17th minute on an assist from Rylee Nichols. After back-and-forth play through the middle stages of the opening frame, Aubra Linn buried a loose ball inside the box to stretch the Spartans' lead to 3-0 in the 30th minute. Madison Aponte found the back of the net in the 39th minute off assists from Kaitie Sanders and Jamie Barrett to give the Spartans a 4-0 advantage at the half.

Castleton was not done there as Bellando added a pair of goals less than two minutes apart to open the second half. Kinnan Latremore chipped in with her first goal of the season in the 51st minute, while Julia Carone and Mikayla Sullivan each netted late goals down the stretch as Castleton went on to earn the victory by a final score of 9-0.

The Spartans dominated from start to finish, outshooting Lyndon 28-0 including 14-0 on goal. Kiley Baran earned the win to improve to 4-1 on the season but did not face a shot. Rachel Shambo played the final 43 minutes in goal for the Spartans.

Castleton returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Plymouth State for a non-conference matchup against the Panthers at 3:30 p.m.
