Women's Soccer Faces MIT in First Round of NCAA Tournament

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Women's Soccer Committee announced on Monday the field of 64 teams for the 2017 Women's Soccer Championship and Castleton University is set to face host Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the opening round on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Castleton (11-7-2) earned an automatic berth after defeating Husson in double overtime, 1-0, in the North Atlantic Conference Championship match last Saturday. The Spartans finished the regular season 8-1 in conference play and beat New England College and Husson to earn their fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history.

MIT (18-1-1), which is ranked No. 13 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches Poll, earned the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) automatic berth after defeating Springfield, 2-0, in the conference championship. The Engineers will be making their eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Four teams will compete at MIT in the opening two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Middlebury (11-3-2) will square off with Western Connecticut State (17-1-2) in the other first-round matchup, while the two winning teams will face each other on Sunday.
