PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Three members of the Castleton University women's soccer team have earned Little East Conference (LEC) All-Conference recognition for the 2018 season as released by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Bellando put together another stellar campaign, notching 21 points via 10 goals and an assist. Ranking in the top 10 in the league in multiple categories, Bellando finished tied for fifth in goals and seventh for total points.
The junior forward also tallied four game-winning goals, including in back-to-back games against Maine-Farmington and Eastern Connecticut State. In the latter contest, Bellando scored in overtime to pick up three crucial conference points for the Spartans. Those performances helped earn her LEC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Sanders provided the Spartans with veteran leadership while helping anchor a back line that was responsible for leading Castleton's defense to allow fewer than two goals per game overall and 1.7 GAA in LEC action. The Chittenden, Vt. native took a majority of the team's corner and free kicks, leading her to record a goal and an assist.
In her first full season, Henderson started in all 19 games for the Spartans, playing to the tune of a 1.97 goals-against-average as well as a .769 save percentage. The sophomore keeper posted three shutouts and made a Little East-leading 123 saves. She also placed in the top 5 in save percentage among goalies with more than 1,000 minutes played.
Castleton posted a 7-12 record overall in 2018 while facing two nationally ranked squads; including defending national champion Williams College. The Spartans will return the majority of their roster in 2019 when they head into their second season as part of the Little East with sights on building on a quarterfinal playoff appearance during their rookie campaign.
