New London, N.H. – The Castleton women's tennis team dropped their first match of the season Saturday afternoon in a NEAC East event at two-time defending champion Colby-Sawyer by a final of 8-1.
The Spartans now sit at 2-1 on the season, with a record of 0-1 in conference play. Ciara Bannister was the lone Spartan victor on the day, winning in three sets over her No. 4 singles opponent.
The Chargers got things rolling early on, taking all three doubles matches from the Spartans. Bannister and partner Kirsten Kruk made a valiant effort in No. 3 doubles, though they could not pull off the upset and fell 8-4.
In singles play, Colby-Sawyer continued to roll, taking five out of the six matches. Sara Novenstern fell in straight sets to Ashlyn Ramsay, who is coming off Player of the Year honors. Meg Susslin fell at second-flight singles in her first match of the season, while Jackie Lisak dropped her first singles set of the year for Castleton.
The Spartans look to get back on the right track when they travel to Sage at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
