CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans improved to 3-1 in the North Atlantic Conference with a decisive 8-1 victory over Thomas on Saturday during homecoming weekend at Castleton.
Castleton gave up just one point, in singles, as the team won its fifth match in a row to improve to 7-1. The Terriers, meanwhile, dropped to 1-7 and 1-3 in the NAC with the loss.
In doubles, the No. 2 duo of Ciara Bannister and Kirsten Kruk set the tone, winning 8-1. At No. 3, Meg Susslin and Dianne Benedicto earned an 8-3 victory. Sara Novenstern and Jackie Lisak made it sweep, taking No. 1 doubles 8-4.
All six singles matches were won in straight sets. Thomas' Lindsey Allen beat Novenstern 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 to give the Terriers their lone victory on the day. Susslin followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 and Lisak didn't give up a point in her 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 3 singles.
Benedicto won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 while Kruk also blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Gabrielle Welch rounded out the scoring with her 6-2, 6-0 victory on the bottom of the ladder.
Castleton returns to action tomorrow when they host Husson at 11 am.
