Women's Tennis Hits the Road for Key Conference Matchups

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team looks to build off an exhilarating win at MCLA earlier in the week with back-to-back NEAC East matchups at Thomas on Saturday before travelling to Husson on Sunday.

Castleton, currently sitting at 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, looks to finish off its four-game road trip with a statement.

Following a 12-1 season in singles action one year ago, Kirsten Kruk leads the Spartans this year with a 6-2 record in singles action. Ciara Bannister comes in with a 5-3 record, playing in first singles in all seven matches this season for the Spartans.

Bannister and Megan Nadler lead the way in first flight doubles action, posting a 5-2 record on the campaign. Kruk and Kayla Zsido follow with a 4-3 record in second doubles, including a 2-1 mark in conference play.

Thomas is coming off a 7-2 loss to Southern Maine in its most recent match. The Terriers are currently 2-5 overall, including a 1-2 record in the conference with their win coming at Lyndon State by a score of 6-3. In last season's matchup between the two programs, Castleton came out victorious 8-1. The two teams will meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Thomas College.

The Spartans will face Husson on Sunday as the final match of the four-match road swing. The Eagles are currently 3-1 on the season, with a most recent win over Lyndon State 9-0. Husson and Castleton are both tied with 2-1 records in the conference but Husson holds the tiebreak with a better overall win percentage.

The two teams met twice last season with the Spartans coming out on top in both matches, 8-1, including most recently a win in the 2015 NEAC East Semifinals. In this weekend's matchup, the Spartans travel to Husson for a 10 a.m. start on Sunday.
