Castleton Women’s Track and Field Rewrites School Record Book

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three school records fell Saturday as the Castleton University women's track and field team competed at the Rhode Island College Holiday Classic at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.

In the 400-meter dash, Lydia Maier won her heat and finished seventh overall with a new school record time of 1:06.35. Haley Kennedy finished 15th in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries with a mark of 10.91 seconds, also a new school record.

Maier and Kennedy combined with Christiana Carmichael and Carlie Reen in the 4x200 meter relay, finishing in eighth place in the event with a school-record time of 1:56.86, over five seconds faster than the previous school record.

Ally Stearns led the Spartan field athletes, finishing sixth in the weight throw with a top effort of 13.21 meters (43' 4.25") and 15th in the shot put with a top mark of 9.44 meters (30' 11.75").

The Castleton women's track and field team will take the next month to complete the fall semester and enjoy the holiday break before returning to competition Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H.
