Throwers Highlight Women's Track and Field at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Castleton women's indoor track and field team competed in the Middlebury Winterfell on Saturday at the Virtue Field House.

The Spartans had a strong performance from their throwers, led by a top-three finish from Ally Stearns in the weight throw. After securing a spot in the New England Regionals with a school-record distance of 14.20 meters earlier this season, the junior took third out of 21 entries on Saturday with a launch of 14.04 meters. Brianna Hake came in 12th with a heave of 10.73 meters, just ahead of Mariah Jollie's throw of 9.30 meters to place 16th.

Stearns led the way in the shot put, placing 14th out of 25 competitors with a toss of 9.27 meters. Cara Cummings and Katey Harris finished back-to-back with top launches of 7.62 and 7.22 meters, respectively.

Sierra Ostrow-Remy was the top Spartan finisher in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 8.65 seconds to place 18th overall. Carlie Reen followed closely with a time of 9.16 seconds, while Alix Hurley (9.64), Alex Derosia (10.00) and Lindsey Reno (10.38) finished consecutively in the short sprint.

Christiana Carmichael clocked in at 29.11 seconds in the 200-meter dash, just ahead of Hurley (32.90) and Derosia (35.19). Haley Kennedy had an impressive finish in the 60-meter hurdles, tying her own personal school-record time of 10.91 seconds.

Castleton returns to action Saturday, Jan. 27, as it heads back to Middlebury for the final time during the indoor season.
