Maier Wins Event at Westfield State Invite

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Lydia Maier came away with the win in the 800-meter dash with a new school record time to lead the Castleton women's track and field team at Westfield State on Saturday.

Maier took the top spot with a time of 2:23.74, besting the second-place runner by nearly one full second and eclipsing the previous school record by a small margin.

Christiana Carmichael posted a strong finish in the 200-meter dash, placing second in her heat and 15th overall after clocking in at 28.92 seconds. Carlie Reen closed in on her personal-best mark in the 200-meter with a time of 29.38 seconds to place 18th overall. Savanah Graves and Samantha Turgeon crossed the line consecutively with times of 31.58 and 33.83 seconds.

Reen shined in the 400-meter dash for the Spartans, as she came away with a school-record time of 1:04.94 to place 10th overall. Her mark bested the previous program pace by nearly one second. Reen and Carmichael joined Sierra Ostrow-Remy and Haley Kennedy on the 4x100 relay team, which took fourth overall with a time of 53.42 seconds.

In the throwing events, Ally Stearns led the way in the hammer throw as she set a new personal best with a mark of 39.73 meters and placed third overall. Iyanna Williams followed in eighth with a top distance of 36.43 meters.

Carley Patch earned a seventh place finish in the discus with a launch of 33.05 meters. Williams (29.76m) and Cara Cummings (24.90m) followed in 11th and 15th place, respectively. 

Castleton will be back in action next Saturday as it travels back to Fitchburg State for the Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite.
