Crompton Takes First Overall, Leads Spartans to Second-Place Finish at Mountaineer Invitational

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Kaylyn Crompton paced the field to the finish line to lead the Castleton women's cross country team to a second-place overall finish in the Mountaineer Invitational Saturday morning at Southern Vermont College.  

Crompton crossed the line with a time of 20:50 in the five-kilometer race of 59 runners, securing the top spot by nearly two full minutes. Megan Greene landed inside the top 10 with an eighth place finish after clocking in at 24:49.

Rachael Emery was the third Spartan to cross the finish line, placing 11th with a time of 25:22. Bethany Alvarez placed 18th overall with a time of 26:51 and was followed closely by Ali Nelson, who crossed the line in 20th with a time of 27:13.

Castleton received the second-lowest score of 47, just behind Green Mountain College. The Eagles captured first place with 43 points, while Johnson State rounded out the top three with 80 points.

The Spartans return to action next Saturday when they host the Castleton Invitational at 11 a.m.
