The Panthers, who are currently on a nine-game winning streak, haven't lost a game since dropping a 3-0 decision to Bates College on October 20, 2018.

The action started in the first quarter as the Spartans' defense kept the No.1/top-ranked team in the country at bay for the first 12-plus minutes. However, with just over two minutes left in the quarter, the Panthers struck first with an unassisted goal by Katie Nicholas. Less than a minute later, the Panthers doubled their lead as Katie George maneuvered through the Spartans' defense to fit one in past goaltender Hope Brown.

Brown played three quarters in today's contest and allowed six goals while collecting nine saves. Senior Tashia Pashby-Rockwood entered the game to start the fourth quarter and allowed two goals and had six saves.

Middlebury came alive in the second quarter as Audrey Lazar netted two goals to increase the Panthers lead to 4-0. Isabel Chandler would add one more in the quarter to make it 5-0 heading into halftime.

The Spartans continued to hang tough as they only allowed one goal in the third quarter. Middlebury's Alison Denby swept one across the front of goal and found itself in the back of the net.

The fourth quarter saw two more Middlebury goals as Lazar scored her third to complete the hat trick while Kelly Coyle tallied one late in the game.

The Spartans were held without a shot by the Panthers' defense while the Panthers tallied 34 shots.

Field hockey will return to action on Saturday, September 14 as it gears up for the 2019 home opener. The Spartans will host Bridgewater State in a Little East Conference matchup at Dave Wolk Stadium.
