KEENE, N.H. -- The Castleton University field hockey team traveled to take on Keene State Wednesday evening in a rematch of the 2018 Little East Conference Championship.
In a 3-0 defeat, the Spartans (3-4, 2-1 LEC) lost their first LEC game of the season while the Owls (5-4, 3-0 LEC) remain undefeated and tied with Worcester State for the top spot in the conference.
The scoring began at the 2:35 mark of the first quarter as Nina Bruno netted her first goal of the game to give the Owls the early advantage. The Owls would continue applying pressure throughout the quarter; however, Tashia Pashby-Rockwood would tally one save while the Spartans' defense held strong. Pashby-Rockwood would finish the game with four saves.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Owls would double their lead in the third. Bruno scored her second goal of the game as she maneuvered her way through the Spartan defense for a clear shot on goal.
The Spartans would not give up as Gabriella Hunt tried to rally the team. Hunt led the Spartans in shots with four while directing two of them on goal.
The Owls would seal the victory early in the fourth quarter as Chase Lambert netted her first goal of the season.
Field hockey will return to action on Saturday, September 28 as it travels to North Dartmouth, Massachusetts to take on UMass-Dartmouth in a Little East Conference matchup starting at 11 a.m.
