DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- After suffering its first Little East Conference loss of the season; the Castleton University field hockey team bounced back for a 5-0 win against UMass-Dartmouth Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans (4-4, 3-1 LEC) came on the attack early as they bombarded the Corsairs (2-5, 0-3 LEC) with eight total shots in the first quarter. Senior Olivia Trevisani finally broke through late in the quarter as she scored her second goal of the season to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
Freshman Kaitlin Bardellini would double the Spartans lead in the second quarter. Bardellini maneuvered through the Corsairs' defense to score her seventh of the season. Junior Loretta Blakeney tallied her fifth goal of season shortly after on a penalty corner to give the Spartans a 3-0 heading into halftime.
The Spartans would score two more goals in the third quarter to solidify the victory. Senior Ellie Gevry scored her first goal of the season and Cydney Jeffrey added her third of the season with just under five minutes left in the third quarter.
Tashia Pashby-Rockwood earned the win in goal while finishing the game with two saves.
Field hockey will return to action on Wednesday, October 2 as it takes on Rensselaer in a non-conference matchup starting at 6 p.m.
