Field Hockey Downed by Western Connecticut State

CASTLETON, Vt. -- The Castleton University field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Western Connecticut State earlier Saturday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Colonials opened up the scoring at the 19:16 mark of the second quarter. Morgan Matthews scored her seventh goal of the season to give the Colonials a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Spartans would not be down for long as the Spartans tied the game four minutes into the third quarter. Gabriella Hunt sent a ball into the striking circle and Kaitlin Bardellini found the back of the net after a scrum in front of the Colonials' goal. Bardellini tallied her 12th goal of the season as she continues to lead the team in goals and points.

The Colonials would quickly answer as Carly Matasavage used a fast break to score her sixth goal of the season. The Colonials would add one more in the third quarter as Lili Dickey put the Colonials up 3-1 with her second goal of the season.

The Colonials would put the game away with a goal late in the fourth quarter.

Spartans' goaltender Tashia Pashby-Rockwood ended the game with 4 saves while Ellie Gevry, Kate West, and Megan Ryan all collected defensive saves.
