WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Castleton University field hockey team traveled to take on Worcester State and were defeated 5-0 Tuesday evening.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Lancers (12-2, 8-0 LEC) struck first and took a 1-0 lead at the 16:51 mark of the second quarter. Coley Hayes connected on a Rachel Hopkins pass and gave the Lancers the lead. The Spartans (7-6, 5-3 LEC) quickly fell behind 2-0 as Olivia Antonelli doubled the Lancers lead around five minutes later.
With the Lancers leading 2-0 at halftime, Spartans' goaltender Tashia Pashby-Rockwood finished the first half with nine saves as the Lancers bombarded the Spartans with 11 shots.
Pashby-Rockwood would end up with a season high 10 saves.
The Lancers would continue to add to the lead in the third quarter as Sarah Duff gave the Lancers a 3-0 lead.
With Kaitlin Bardellini registering the only shot for the Spartans, the Lancers would put more pressure the Spartans' defense in the fourth quarter. Sophia Monopoli and Rachel Hopkins put the game away as they both scored in the quarter.
Field hockey will return to action on Saturday, October 19 as it takes on Westfield State at Dave Wolk Stadium in a Little East Conference matchup starting at 4 p.m.
