PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Castleton University men's golf team placed fourth at the MCLA Trailblazer Invitational Tuesday afternoon, led by individual medalist Jacob Erwin, at the Berkshire Hills Golf Course.
Erwin finished tied atop the leaderboard for low round of the day with a one-over-par 73, winning a tie-break for individual honors. His victory marks the third time in four tournaments that a Castleton golfer has claimed individual medalist honors after Nicholas Ojala earned the title at the NVU-Johnson Invitational and the Castleton Invitational. Matt Marcotte fired off an 86 in his first action of the season, followed by Tripp Norris (90), Mark Shroyer (94) and A.J. Tatton (98).
Castleton posted a team score of 343 on the day, while Westfield State claimed the team crown with a 313. Elms College finished second at 314, while Roger Williams was third at 315. RWU's Ryan Burrill also shot a 73 in addition to Erwin, while Elms' John Keegan and Westfield State's J.J. Newcombe each carded scores of 76 to tie for third.
Castleton returns to the tee box September 29 & 30 at the the Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College.
