CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team was swept for the first time all season on Saturday, falling to Colby-Sawyer by a final tally of 9-0 in a North Atlantic Conference East Division matchup at the Castleton Tennis Courts.
Castleton is now 9-3 overall and 4-2 in NAC East play, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 10-10 and 5-0 in league play. All five of Colby-Sawyer's conference wins have come by finals of 9-0.
The Chargers opened the day with a sweep of doubles play, as Seth Marcil and Quentin Barthe were dispatched, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles by Dean Boodakian and Ryan Sawyer. Jared Wheeler and Tyler Wilcox fell to Gustav Jigrup and Matt Burke, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles, while Brody Wagner and Darwin Norris were shutout, 8-0, by Cameron Lynch and Will Triebel at the third flight.
It was more of the same in singles action, as Colby-Sawyer won all six flights in straight sets. Marcil fell by a final of 6-1, 6-1 to Jigrup, while Barthe was set down by Sawyer, 6-2, 6-1 at the second position. At No. 3 singles, Wheeler fell to Boodakian, 6-1, 6-1. Wagner took on Ryan Broderick at the No. 4 spot, with Broderick coming out on top, 6-2, 6-2. Wilcox and Norris played the Nos. 5 and 6 positions for Castleton, falling 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
Castleton is back in action at the NAC East Division Championship on April 29.
