RUTLAND, Vt. – Continuing its early-season dominance, the Castleton University men's tennis team defeated The University of Maine-Fort Kent 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Grand Slam Tennis Center.
Castleton improves to 3-0 to start the season and has not dropped a pairing in singles or doubles to this point. Meanwhile, Maine-Fort Kent falls to 0-1 to begin the year.
Brody Wagner and Trevor Hanna kicked off the play with an 8-1 win in doubles to lead the Spartans. In other doubles action, Quentin Barthe and Jared Wheeler earned an 8-2 victory in the top flight, while Darwin Norris and Riley Laughlin followed suit winning by the same scoreline.
Barthe continued to put together a dominating display at singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win – the only such Castleton victory during the afternoon. Wheeler and Hanna also carried over their winning ways from doubles with 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 scores, respectively.
Fourth through sixth singles – Wagner, Norris and Ryan Ng – each collected straight-set wins during the overall match.
