FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Castleton University men's track and field team came in 11th out of 20 teams in attendance at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State on Saturday.
Nate Gilcris earned both of Castleton's top-four finishes with a third-place showing in the high jump out of 12 with a height of 1.87 meters (6'1.5"). He was also fourth in the long jump at 6.24 meters (20'5.75") and 24th in the 100-meter dash in 12.27 seconds.
Michael McKoy was the top sprinter for the Spartans with a 14th-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.95 seconds, and 17th in the 200-meter dash in 24.46 seconds. Meanwhile, Joseph Ouimet was 29th in the 100-meter dash (12.57 seconds) and 25th in the half-lap sprint (25.10 seconds). Rudy Ryan clocked in 30th in the 100-meter sprint (12.63 seconds) and 26th in the 200-meter variety (25.15).
Clayton Bailey turned out an 11th-place performance in the javelin in the field of 38 with a launch of 43.85 meters (143'10"). Tayler Larmie was 12th of 22 in the hammer throw with a heave of 41.07 meters (134'09") and 23rd out of 52 in the discus at 30.34 meters (99'6"). Caleb Davidson came in 18th in the discus with a throw of 31.15 meters (102'2"). He was also 12th of 39 in the shot put with a toss of 11.90 meters (39'0.5").
Castleton came in 11th as a team with 10.5 points. Bridgewater State won the team title with 164 points. They were followed by New Haven (87 points), Keene State (84.50 points), host Fitchburg State (63 points), and Thomas (55 points) in the top five.
Castleton returns to action on Saturday, April 13 at the Second Annual Penmen Relays at Southern New Hampshire University.
