CASTLETON, Vt. -- The Castleton University men's cross country finished second in the Vermont State Meet earlier Friday evening.
Junior Gannon McKearin paced the way for the Spartans as he finished in first place with a time of 26:59 (5:26 mile time). McKearin finished over a minute ahead of the second-place finisher while also shaving off 34 seconds from his time at the Castleton Invitational.
Senior Jared Wheeler placed fourth with a time of 27:57 (5:38 mile time). Wheeler also improved on his time from the Castleton Invitational, shaving off eight seconds.
Levi Williams, who was the third Spartan to finish in the top ten, finished sixth with a time of 29:55 (6:01 mile time).
St. Michael's College took home the team title with 35 points. Castleton finished right behind in second place with 40 points. Vermont Tech (88 points), Northern Vermont University-Lyndon (96 points), and Northern Vermont University-Johnson (105 points) rounded out the top five.
Men's cross country will return to action on Saturday, October 12 as it competes in the James Earley Invitational in Westfield, Massachusetts. The men's race is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
