WATERVILLE, Maine – After leading the Castleton women's basketball team to a 3-0 week and solo possession of second place in the league standings, junior Amanda Beatty has been named the North Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Beatty averaged 19.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and one steal per game as the Spartans won all three conference games during the past week. For the season, she is now averaging 11.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, one assist, and 1.2 steals per game to help Castleton improve to 13-8 overall and 11-3 within the NAC.
Last Tuesday at Colby-Sawyer, Beatty scored 16 points and pulled down five rebounds as Castleton completed the season sweep of the Chargers. She started the weekend by scoring a season-high 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, plus she earned three rebounds, three assists, and two steals against Thomas College Friday.
Saturday against Maine-Farmington, Beatty hit 10-of-14 shots from the field and 5-of-7 attempts from the free throw line for a career-high 25 points, plus she grabbed six rebounds in the Spartans' 65-29 win over the Beavers. For the week, Beatty shot 64.9 percent (24-of-37) from the field to move up into second place in the conference in field goal percentage at 48.7 percent for the season.
This is the first conference weekly award in Beatty's collegiate career and the second one earned by a Spartan women's basketball player this season. Makayla Farrara was named NAC Player of the Week on Dec. 5, 2016 after averaging 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in victories over New England College, Maine-Farmington, and Thomas.
Castleton heads to Maine this coming weekend for conference matchups against Maine Maritime Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. and NAC leader Husson Saturday, Feb. 11, at 3 p.m.
