Castleton Drops Nonconference Road Contest At Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – Undone by a third-period power play goal, the Castleton University women's ice hockey team fell via a 3-2 score for the second-straight game, this time at Trinity College on Friday evening.

Trailing 1-0 just 13 seconds into its first power play opportunity of the evening, Nicolle Trivino brought the Spartans even. Defender Casey Traill sent the puck to the far-side point and Jocelyn Forrest. Corralling the puck, Forrest looked to shoot before instead passing the puck across to Trivino at the opposite point. Trivino's perfect positioning led to an easy goal as she flicked the puck past the goalie, leaving no chance for it to be saved.

Playing from behind again, assistant captain Lisa Kilroy tallied the equalizer late in the middle frame. Once again being jumpstarted by the defender, Hannah Rose dealt the puck to forward Ali Stevens who ripped a shot to the far side.

Trinity College goaltender Kai-Lilly Karpman made one of her 17 saves on the Stevens shot, but it was not enough as Kilroy caught the rebound with just enough of her stick to put it inside the left post.

Earlier with the score notched at 1-1, Trinity's Kelcie Finn knocked the puck in. The former occurred after Castleton goalie Rylie Wills made a stop and was laid out on Hannah Oganeku's original shot.

Originally following the score, which put the Bantams up 2-1, the referees met near the Castleton net and called the goal off seemingly due to the fact that Wills had been taken out. Moments later, the linesman joined the referees and the score was reinstated.

During her roughly 44 minutes of playing time, Wills was tagged for two goals and the loss. Nonetheless, the junior made 15 saves, including a couple of waffle-board stops in the second, keeping the game tied at the time. Prior to leaving the contest in the first, Alexis Kalm recorded the start and made eight saves in about 15 minutes.

Women's ice hockey returns to action at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday for a nonconference contest at Johnson & Wales University.
