BEDFORD, Maine – The Castleton University women's rugby team dropped a match on the road at the University of New England on Sunday. The Nor'Easters won the first two games by the score of 19-5 and 12-0, respectively. Castleton claimed the third game by a 24-5 margin.
The Spartans struck first in the opening game with Jollie's first try of the afternoon at the 1:16 mark of the opening half. UNE ran off three consecutive tries with two good conversions to take a 19-5 advantage into the half. Neither team was able to add to the scoreboard in the second half.
In the second game, UNE had two second-half tries to claim the 12-0 victory. Melissa Smith scored one of them and also added a successful conversion.
In the third and final game of the afternoon, following an early try by UNE, the Spartans rattled off four straight tries to claim the victory. Coe had the first of her career to knot it up at five before Bentley's try gave Castleton the lead into the half. Jollie and Coe scored in the second half to give Castleton the 24-5 triumph.
Castleton returns to action on Saturday, September 14 on the road at Molloy.
