FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Castleton University women's rugby team wrapped up its most successful campaign in program history with a 3-0 loss at Sacred Heart on Saturday.
The Pioneers shut out the Spartans 45-0 in the first game and followed it up with 22-10 and 22-0 triumphs.
Castleton finished the season with a record of 2-7. The 2018 squad had a 1-8 record including the program's first-ever win over LIU Post in the last match of the season.
Tovah Coe and Julia May accounted for the Spartan tries, both in the second game. The teams traded scores but a penalty try for the hosts made is 12-10 into the half. Sacred Heart got both tries of the second half to claim the set 22-10.
Isabel Keller led the way for SHU with four tries on the afternoon. Meanwhile, McKenzie Jumper had three and Sophie Hale finished with one. Six Pioneers scored a single try. Hale also had six made conversions.
May led the defensive effort for Castleton with 13 total tackles, while Coe recorded 10. May also accounted for two runs over 20 for the Spartans, while Mariah Jollie claimed the other one. Nine different players had at least one ROT for the hosts.
Sacred Heart ended its regular season with an overall record of 3-5.
