Women's Alpine Wins Second Straight MacConnell Division Title

ANDOVER, N.H. – The Castleton University women's alpine ski team raced its way to its eighth consecutive victory and second straight Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference MacConnell Division title on Sunday afternoon at the Proctor Ski Area.

The Spartans clinched a spot in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association Eastern Regional Championships on February 23 & 24 along with the regular-season crown in Sunday's slalom. Castleton posted a total time of 4:52.16, besting second-place Brown University (5:07.23) by more than 15 seconds. The University of Connecticut finished third at 5:07.56.

For the second straight day, Karoline Rettenbacher topped the podium, posting a time of 1:35.45. It was the rookie's fifth consecutive victory overall, and her third in her last three slalom races. Li Aunes finished in third place with a time of 1:37.63, while Linn Ljungemo claimed fourth place with a time of 1:39.08.

Lena Soehnle, Kylie Mackie and Kirsten Kruk finished within one second of one another in fifth, seventh and eighth place, clocking in at 1:39.42, 1:39.87 and 1:39.95, respectively.

The Spartans have next weekend off before returning to action for the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships on February 23 at Sugarloaf Mountain.
