HENNIKER, N.H. – The Castleton University women's soccer cruised past New England College 4-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 8-8-0 while the Pilgrims fall to 7-8-1.
The Spartans fired four shots and had a pair of corners before finding the back of the net in the 11th minute. A through ball from Shappy down the far sidelines found Bellando who scored by shooting to the low right side. Castleton was able to maintain momentum throughout the first 45 minutes, as they outshot the Pilgrims 16-1.
Castleton opened up the second half with a goal just 45 seconds in. Off of a failed clear attempt, Nichols was able to drive home the goal for the Spartans in the middle of the box. Carone picked up her fifth goal of the season after she went from midfield into to the top of the box and drove home the third goal of the match for Castleton. Carone picked up her second of the game in the 75th minute to add to the Spartans' lead and complete the scoring.
Loren Henderson had four saves in goal for Castleton to earn the win. Emily Sashko and Alli Stoddart split the game for NEC in goal and combined for 11 saves.
Women's soccer returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Plymouth State in the penultimate game of the regular season.
