Spartans Look to Stay Hot Against MCLA

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team returns home this afternoon riding a three-match winning streak when they host MCLA at 4:00 p.m.

The Spartans enter the NEAC East contest with an overall record of 5-1 and a conference record of 1-1. MCLA holds an overall record of 5-2 to go along with a 2-0 record in conference play.

Castleton has been in top form of late, defeating Sage, Plymouth St., and Green Mountain in their last three contests. The victory over Plymouth St. was the first for Castleton in three seasons.

Leading the charge for the Spartans has been Jackie Lisak, who has gone 5-1 on the season, including 4-0 in No. 2 singles. Sara Novenstern has a 4-2 record in the top singles spot, while Ciara Bannister, Dianne Benedicto, and Kirsten Kruk also hold 5-1 records in singles play. The Spartans have a 26-10 record in singles play this year, good for a .722 win percentage.

In doubles action, the team of Lisak and Novenstern has won three straight matches in the top flight. Bannister and Kruk have won back-to-back matches on their way to a 4-1 record at No. 2 doubles. Overall, the Spartans are 12-6 in doubles play on the season.

For MCLA, Mariza Sfakianaki has been dominant at No. 3 singles, winning all seven matches on the season. Emily Deaso has a 5-2 record between first and second-flight singles, while Taylor Turner is 4-1 at No. 2 singles. Deaso and Sfakianaki have a 5-2 record in top-flight doubles, while Turner and Shelby Gauthier hold a 5-2 record in the No. 2 spot.

Last season, Castleton took both matches against MCLA, winning 5-4 in regular season action before downing the Trailblazers 7-2 in the NEAC East semifinals.
