CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team won their sixth straight match Sunday afternoon, taking down Husson by a final of 7-2 in a NEAC East contest.
The Spartans move to 8-1 overall with the win, and now have a 4-1 record in conference play. Husson drops their first contest of the season, moving to 5-1 with a 4-1 record in conference.
The Spartans got out to the early lead, taking two out of the three doubles matches. The duo of Ciara Bannister and Kirsten Kruk won their fifth straight doubles contest, taking down Charlotte Bednarz and Samantha Dubay by a score of 8-2 in the No. 2 spot. Meg Susslin and Dianne Benedicto won a hard-fought match in third flight doubles, defeating Elizabeth Adley and Kelsey Pelletier 9-8 (5). Sara Novenstern and Jackie Lisak fell at the top flight, dropping the set by a score of 8-2 to Meredith Blessard and Katie Pratt.
In singles action, Novenstern won a long, three-set battle over Blessard, fighting back from a first-set loss to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Jackie Lisak won without conceding a game, taking down Bednarz 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Bannister extended her winning streak to seven consecutive singles matches, winning 6-3, 6-0 in the four spot.
Benedicto and Kruk would round out singles play, each winning 6-0, 6-2 for the Spartans in the fifth and sixth flights, respectively. Pratt earned the lone singles win for the Eagles, taking the No. 2 matchup from Susslin by a score of 7-6 (3), 2-6, 10-5.
The Spartans are back on the courts on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when they travel to Lyndon St. to take on the Hornets. The match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
