CASTLETON, Vt. - Following back-to-back seasons with 11 wins and North East Athletic Conference East Division Championship appearances, the Castleton women's tennis program has been predicted to finish second in the NEAC East preseason poll, which is conducted by the league's head coaches.
Castleton and Husson tied for second place with 49 total points apiece. Both squads went 5-2 in the NEAC East last season. Colby-Sawyer was unanimously selected as the front-runner to win the conference with 64 total points, receiving all eight of the first-place votes. The Chargers will make a run for their fifth-straight conference championship in 2016.
The Spartans return three NEAC East All-Conference members from last season, including junior Ciara Bannister and sophomore Kirsten Kruk. Both will be looking to build off successful campaigns under head coach Rob Purdy, who enters his seventh season at the reigns.
Castleton will begin its season on the road at Johnson State on Sept. 1, with the game time scheduled for 4 p.m. Conference play will begin one week later on Sept. 8, when the Spartans host Green Mountain in their home-opener.
