CASTLETON, Vt. -- The Castleton University women's tennis team took the courts this afternoon for a Little East Conference matchup against Salem State. The Spartans fought hard but the Vikings took the 6-3 victory.
Starting off with doubles, Castleton (1-2, 0-1 LEC) fell behind early. Salem State (1-0, 1-0 LEC) eased through doubles and took a 3-0 lead heading into singles. The second flight of Emily Miller and Megan Hunt won the most games in an 8-5 loss to Hannah Dahrouge and Caroline Robitaille.
The Spartans came back however, as they won three singles matches. Miller took home the win at second singles beating Dahrouge 6-3, 6-1. Regina Marchese went the distance as she beat Meredith MacDonald 6-1, 3-6, 11-9. Aliza Bogner also went took home a three-set win at sixth singles, beating Daphne Pineda 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.
Women's tennis returns to the courts on Tuesday, September 10 as it takes on Northern Vermont University-Johnson in a non-conference matchup starting at 4 p.m.
