BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- In a rain shortened Little East Conference match, the Castleton University women's tennis team fell to Bridgewater State 7-0 at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Court.
With the loss this afternoon, the Spartans fall to 2-3 (0-2 LEC) while the Bears improve to 2-3 (1-1 LEC).
Starting off with doubles, the third flight of Alexis Curley and Grace Sharkey were able to scrape out three games from Rachel Tarantino and Jessica Gaudreau in an 8-3 loss. The first flight of Megan Nadler and Regina Marchese fell 8-0 while the second flight Emily Miller and Megan Hunt also fell 8-0.
Singles began and only four matches were able to be completed before the rain started. The Spartans were able to collect three games in the matches that were completed as Hunt fell 6-1, 6-0 at third singles. Sharkey took two games in the first set as she dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Rachel Tarantino at fifth singles.
Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was Miller falling 6-0, 6-0 at second singles and Marchese dropping the first set 6-0 at fourth singles before retiring.
Scores that were not registered in the match due to rain included Nadler taking on Sailor Nordstrom at first singles. Nordstrom was ahead 6-4, 4-1 when the match was called. At sixth singles, Curley was leading Ariana Bedoya 6-4, 2-1 before the cancellation.
Women's tennis returns to the courts on Wednesday, September 18 as it takes on The Sage Colleges in a non-conference matchup starting at 4 p.m.
