CASTINE, Maine - The Spartans dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, falling to Maine Maritime and Husson by matching 3-0 scores in Smith Gymnasium on the campus of Maine Maritime.
In the day's first match, Castleton lost 25-11, 25-3, 25-3 to the host Mariners. Sophomore Paige Lacey (Westerly, R.I.) led the squad with three kills and added a block assist. Sophomore Ruth Tomlinson (Huntington, Vt.) led the Spartans with four digs and dished out a pair of assists.
Facing Husson in the afternoon, the Spartans again fell 3-0, losing 25-19, 25-9, 25-9.
Lacey led the attack with three kills once again, and also had a service ace. Tomlinson's five digs matched Sarah Flore (Springfield, Vt.) for the team lead.
With the losses, the Spartans fall to 0-12 on the season and 0-2 in the North Atlantic Conference. The team returns to action on Tuesday when Castleton hosts Green Mountain in Glenbrook Gymnasium at 7 pm.
